about
I wrote the lyric in 1980. In 1998, eighteen years later, John Bizzack set it to music and made this recording in Nashville. I don't recall the name of the vocalist.
lyrics
The Guinness World Record For Havin' The Blues
Verse 1:
You used to tell me I'd never amount to nothin' in this life;
I'd be a failure till the end of my days. I was afraid you might be right.
But things sure have changed since you left me that day;
would ya believe now I can say...
Chorus:
I'm known the world over and since credit is due
I came by to tell you all about the good news.
I've gained great distinction and I've nothin' left to prove;
I hold the Guinness World Record... for... havin' the blues.
Verse 2:
My heart turned to ashes when I heard that slammin' door;
I still hear the echoes of you tellin' me how I always fell so short.
Now I can thank you for what you've done for me
cause I'm a genuine celebrity.
(Chorus)
Verse 3:
In 1903 a man from Milwaukee set the record for all these years;
now I'm in the book and I took his place, yeah, I beat 'im by 96 tears.
Well, my thanks again, I thought you should know
I'm flyin' high since you laid me so low.
(Chorus)
(Chorus)
